“Wandjina” figure. A rare example, with a black figure (almost exclusively they are painted white). The halo and other details have red ochre. Two snakes and two boomerangs surround the Wandjina: the white dots depicts rain.
The Wandjina are powerful sky spirits who are responsible for the bringing of the monsoon rains, and fertility, to the generally dry regions of north-western Australia.
