Upper Ramu River, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea
This is the complete lime gourd in good condition. The spatula is a cut and formed cassowary bone, with a finely woven ‘headdress’ that is ornamented with nassa shells, and red & blue color. The rim of the gourd is trimed with a cut down conus shell. Such lime gourds are carried ceremonially in dance; but may be used at non-ceremonial times by big men.
