Nakanai people, East New Britain
The mask is a painted tapa cloth of a bold face, stretched over a conical cane frame. Masks such as this one are quite rare; rather the painted tapa survives, and the can framework does not. Ex- collection William Dunmall, Number 537; it was displayed in the Urimbirra Museum, Queensland 1960 – 1980. Collected by Tull in New Britain in late 1950s.
