O101 YUA

This YUA is large, and traditionally of immense value on many levels; as brideprice or as a marker of prestige and ownership in particular exchanges. This is cut from the giant clamshell ( tidacna) using only bamboo and sand. The central circle must be perfectly circular; the outer circular edge is of less importance. Shells are judged on their size, their thickness, and their colour ( the creamier colour showing growth rings is most desirable)

A large and thick shell, with fine old surface, and a quite small central hole, giving more volume to the shell. There is fine engraving, notching around the inner edge of the hole

Size: 29 cm diameter
