This is a small image of the ‘Wandjina’ spirit – but much smaller ones were painted. Ignatio was one of the well-known artists of the 1970s-1990s who depicted this spirit on bark.

The Wandjina are powerful sky spirits who are responsible for the bringing of the monsoon rains, and fertility, to the generally dry regions of north-western Australia.
