A-5 Aboriginal Bark Painting “Wandjina”

Artist: Ignatia Djanghara (1930-). Circa 1980.

Natural earth pigments on bark. Depicts a strong Wandjina, a spirit associated with water in the dry desert regions of Western Australia; in particular with the monsoons. The snake form suggests the Rainbow Serpent, from Aboriginal creator myths.
