A-6 Aboriginal Bark Painting “Wandjina”

Artist: Unknown (Kalumburu school).

The inscription on back is “Ignatia”, presumably Ignatia Djanghara. Two wandjinas. These images were traditionally painted on sheltered rock walls in the Kurranurra area of Western Australia. The arrival of the monsoon rains was always a critical event for this dry region. The Wandjina spirit had powerful connections to water, rain and the arrival of the monsoons.
