O-30 PREHISTORIC STONE TORSO, ”ENGA”

Papua New Guinea Highlands.

This unique female torso, hands on wide hips, has undulating rings around its form, with two small breasts. One only wonders what the female’s head (probably abstracted) may have looked like. This stone carving is probably several thousand years old. Ex-collection Ron Ingle, Queensland, Australia, who worked in the Enga region 1962-63 as a geologist.
