All these coconuts were collected on some of my first visits to PNG in the 1970s. All were quite old at the time and obviously carved by a good carver from an older generation. The carved designs are precisely engraved, all with wonderful flowing lines.

a) Depicting wind and flowing water in the motif; the basis of life.

b) Two large ancestral faces dominate this coconut, and many other Sepik motifs.

c)  Like a above this coconut depicts the movement of wind and water, that both breathe life into the world.
